On Monday evening, April 6 at a special meeting of the Hoosick Board a resolution was passed to apply for a Round 3 Restore NY Communities Initiative Municipal Grant for $1.8 million. If received, the Grant would allow for the restoration of a 30,000 square foot building, including roof and windows, at 50 Factory Hill Rd. The building would become a brewery with tasting room for Brown’s Brewing Co. The building is located in an Empire Zone.
The Town had previously applied for a grant that encompassed this building and other properties. The proposal was denied. It was suggested the project scope be narrowed to one location.
Members of the Town Board believe this project is within the Town’s and region’s planning objectives. It is effective and efficient use of an existing building and will promote both economic development and preserve a community resource. It will also create employment opportunities.
Ten percent or more of the total cost of the project is the responsibility of the Town to collect from Brown’s Brewery. The Town will commit matching funds to be raised from in-kind, land, non-cash donations of labor, materials, equipment, and general revenues of the Town or other funding sources for development purposes.
A Public Hearing on the proposed Grant application will be held at the Town Offices on April 20 at 6:30 pm. With public approval the application must be submitted by May 4.
