On Friday, April 17, Music & Art Cafe in the Petersburgh Veterans Community Center presents husband and wife team Kaori Washiyama and Daniel Shulman performing on violin and piano.
Shulman was educated at the Fieldston School and Columbia University, received musical training at the Juilliard School and Dartmouth College Congregation of the Arts. During the 1970s, he was the founding director of The Light Fantastic Players, an ensemble of some 30 young musicians, most of whom are in positions of great prominence today. He has conducted many of America’s most distinguished chamber groups including the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St Luke’s and the Erick Hawkins Dance Co.
Washiyama trained at Kyoto University of Art in violin, viola and chamber music. She was awarded the prestigious Tanaka Award, Kyoto Music Award, Barook Saal Award and, in Rome, the Rode Award. She has studied under Ricard Brengola and played the Academia Chigiana in Siena with Franco Gulli. Washiyama is the founding director of a well established concert series in Japan bearing her name. Kaori has been a faculty member of Kyoto University of Art and is currently an instructor at Bennington College,
The performance begins at 8 pm. Admission is $5, $8 per couple, $10 per family. Desserts will be available.
