Ruth A. Woffenden

White Creek – Mrs. Ruth A. Woffenden, 87, a resident of McCart Road, White Creek, NY, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT.  Born in Wilmington, VT, on June 12, 1921, she was the daughter of Howard J. and Mabel (Whitney) Taylor. She grew up on the family farm in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. She married Paul Woffenden in Whitingham, VT, on November 23, 1944. He died in 1991. 

 

The family moved to White Creek in 1965 where they established the Maple Grove Farm. Mrs. Woffenden assisted her husband in the operation of the farm and raised their five children there. The farm is now operated by her children. In earlier years she had resided in Jacksonville, VT, and had been a Lister for the Town of Searsburg, VT. She enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She leaves her sons, Samuel and Ernest Woffenden both of White Creek, daughters, Louise Atherton of Wilmington and Polly Niles and Mary Woffenden both of White Creek, a sister, Edith and husband Harry Morse of Vernon, VT, an aunt, Beatrice Ward of Vernon, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a brother and sister in law, Henry and Marie Taylor, and a sister and brother in law, Mary and Vernon White.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 22, at 2 pm at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington. Friends called at the funeral home from noon until 2 pm. Burial followed in the Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington.
