Veterans Of Stephentown Supply Flag Holders For Veterans’ Graves

May 22, 2009 By eastwickpress

On Tuesday members of the Board of Directors of Hillside Cemetery in West Stephentown, (l-r) Jim Evans, Ralph Hartzell, Russel Pratt, Wyatt Haley and Gordon Shepard went through the cemetery placing new flag holders and flags on the graves of the 69 veterans buried there. (Missing from photo is Stanley Shepard.) Here they have placed a flag at the grave of Harvey E. Williams who was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II.
The flag holders were purchased by the Veterans of Stephentown from funds that were part of a grant from Senator Joseph Bruno, and they, along with flags provided by County Veterans Services Director Bob Reiter, have been distributed to all five of the operating Town cemeteries. Many veterans’ graves have not previously had flag holders or they have disappeared. Persons who know of grave sites of veterans in other burial grounds that are lacking flag holders can contact Wyatt Haley or Tom MacVeigh. (David Flint photo)
