A. Celinbaum Quits Mysteriously

Thursday, August 21, 1851: Today I and hired boy drove a cow that is young heifer to bull to J. B. Maxon’s and said Maxon agreed that I might put his bull in my pasture a spell, that is a few weeks, and John F. turned the bull into my pasture.
Friday: Quite rainy. This forenoon Geo P. rode to Lebanon and carried cheese at six cts per pound to N. Nichols store, and this afternoon I and two sons mowed on the Wm. B. Maxon farm and the hired boy weeded in the garden and piled wood in the wood house, and today I paid A. Celinbaum three dollars and 75 cents, which is in full  for all the work by the day he has done for me, which is four days works in haying.
Tuesday: I and my two sons and two hired men and hired boy hayed on Wm B. Maxon’s and hayed to home. This evening John F. rode to Lebanon to Lias Dike’s and got the pay for Geo P. fat steers. Edward Gould stayed with us to start with Geo P. tomorow for Vermont after sheep.
Wednesday: I and John F. and two hired men and hired boy we hayed to home and finished mowing in my big meadow. Today Geo P. starts for Vermont to buy sheep. I sent one hundred dollars to buy sheep.
Thursday: I mowed rowing in my south meadow and my hired man A. Celinbalm with me. He worked till nearly eleven o’clock and quit without saying one word but told to the neighbors that he had quit work for me for good.
Tuesday: Showery today. I piled some wood and the hired boy piled some wood in the wood house and I paid said boy John Coslo 25 cts and this afternoon he went to the Circus to Lebanon Springs and John F. and Sarah O went to the Circus and I paid 50 cents for them to be admitted in. Today Caroline Holcomb came on a visit, she came home with John F. from the Circus
Wednesday: This afternoon Mr. Calvin Sackett Jnr and wife from Berlin visited us.
Tuesday: I went to Pittsfield with one horse wagon and Charlotte with mem she went and did some trading to the stores, and I paid eight dollars cash to a clothing store for an overcoat up North Street near the Berkshire to an Irish shop.
