In his first start since his near no-hitter last week, Berlin’s Eric Remington took the mound on Tuesday to face off against Tamarac in a non-league contest. The Mountaineers gave the senior some support right away as they tallied two runs in the first inning. After drawing a leadoff walk, Aaron Gunlach scored on Matt Morse’s triple. Fred Morine then plated Morse with a sac fly. With that two run lead, Remington looked sharp. After going 1-2-3 in the first, Remington allowed the first two batters to reach in the second. No worries for him though as a strikeout and a double play got him out of a jam. In the top of the third he issued a two out walk, but a fly ball by the next batter ended that inning.
In the Berlin half of the fourth, the Mountaineers scored four one out runs to build a 6-0 lead. Gunlach drew another walk, followed by a single by Morse. Morine then singled driving in a run and Remington added an RBI double. Tyler Bacon then doubled as well, scoring both Morine and Remington.
Tamarac was not giving up though, and in the top of the fourth inning they started their rally. A single by Brad Ryan and then a triple by Josh Johnson got the Bengals on the board. Johnson then scored on an error. In the fifth Tamarac kept at it, scoring four runs to tie the game, all with two outs. With the score at 6-3, Brad Ryan hit a three-run home run to tie the game.
In the very next inning the Bengals took the lead on a sac fly that plated a run. Needing just six more outs to claim the victory, Tamarac blew through the Mountaineers in the sixth, striking out the side. In the seventh, Morse drew a leadoff walk, but the next three batters were retired to end the game. The win by Tamarac gave their coach, Dave Bestle his 250th career victory.
Morse led the way for Berlin, going 2-3 with a triple and single, scoring two runs and driving in one run. Remington was 2-4 with an RBI, a double and single.
