The Berlin baseball team hosted Doane Stuart on Friday, May 1, in Central Hudson Valley League action. The Mountaineers have been struggling lately but wasted no time in taking a lead as they scored five runs in the first inning, highlighted by Eric Remington’s two run double and Seth Hawk’s two run single. It was more of the same in the second as Matt Morse and Remington each connected on extra base hits, giving Berlin three more runs.
Toby Goodermote was steady on the mound for Berlin as he allowed just one hit. A third inning single was all the Thunder Chickens could muster. Berlin never let up and stretched their lead out farther. In the bottom of the fourth, the Mountaineers exploded for thirteen runs, stretching their lead to 25-0. After the Thunder Chickens batted in the top half of the fifth, the game was called. Goodermote took home the win, giving up just one hit and only allowing one runner past first base.
Fred Morine led the way for Berlin, going 4-5, scoring five runs, collecting two singles, a double, a triple and driving in seven runs. Matt Morse went 3-4 with five runs scored, two singles, a double and drove in two runs.
