NLCS Voters Approve Budget

May 22, 2009 By eastwickpress

by David Flint
Voters in the New Lebanon Central School District on Tuesday easily approved a $12.8 million budget that calls for a tax levy increase of only 0.13%. The vote was 275 yes and 91 no.
Two seats on the School Board were up for election, both for three-year terms, but there was only one announced candidate, Monique Wood, the current Board President running for re-election. Wood received 280 votes. Tracy Bingham of Brainard received 37 write-in votes and will fill the second open seat replacing Kelly Magin. Bingham, who has two children in New Lebanon schools, one in sixth grade and one in high school, said she was very excited and looking forward to accepting this opportunity to be involved in the comprehensive education of all of the District’s children.
New Lebanon Schools Superintendent Karen McGraw thanked the District voters for their continued support saying, “We will continue to find ways to be as conservative as possible and still maintain the quality programs we have put in place.”
