Stephentown Brownie Troop 1752 Sends “Gift Of Caring” To Soldiers

May 1, 2009 By eastwickpress

Brownie troop 1752 was thrilled to send 25 boxes of girl scout cookies to soldiers overseas.  This was part of the “gift of caring” program which involves the girls selecting a group that they wanted to donate cookies to as a way of “giving back.”

Each time the girls asked people if they wanted to buy some cookies, they also asked if that person would like to donate a box to whatever charity or group the troop had chosen as their “gift of caring” recipient.

The girls eagerly chose to send the boxes to a Unit on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower where one of the girls’ uncle is stationed.  This unit works on E-2 airplanes which hold the radar dishes that help give the ground units better intelligence reports.  There are many different types of aircraft also held on this carrier along with about 5,000 soldiers.  Brownie Scout Catherine Golden is so proud of her Uncle Jeff and was very thankful to be able to do something nice for him.

The girls agreed that the sacrifices all soldiers endure as part of keeping our country safe is the biggest example of “giving back” that they could imagine. They were very excited to surprise the troops with cookies, and they look forward to doing similar acts of kindness for them in the future.  The girls would also like to thank the community for helping us with our cookie sale and for all boxes donated.
