Task Force To Focus On Underage Drinking And Drug Use

May 15, 2009 By eastwickpress

On April 1 the community came together at the Berlin Firehouse to participate in a meeting concerning the use of drugs and alcohol in the towns of Stephentown, Berlin, Petersburgh and Grafton. Over 40 people attended this important meeting.  On hand were students from the Berlin SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapter presenting startling statistics about the use of drugs and alcohol among our local youth. Also, a panel of students took questions from the inquiring audience.
The guest speaker was John Underwood, president and founder of the American Athletic Institute, who volunteered his time and expertise to discuss this ever present problem.  Interested attendees of this evening met again at the Berlin Town Library on April 28.  The focus was to start a task force that would focus on diminishing the underage use of drugs and alcohol within our communities.
This group will be meeting again on June 2  at the Stephentown Library at 6.  Anyone interested in being a part of this very worthwhile coalition please plan on attending.
