The Federated Church in the Garfield section of Stephentown escaped damage early Saturday evening when a brief but violent storm came barreling through the area. This tree fortunately fell to the north side of the Church. The storm toppled several very tall trees on Freling Smith’s property nearby and ripped up a portion of his metal barn roof. In the adjoining Garfield Cemetery it brought down a tree on top of the Atwater gravestones and across the Kinderhook bridge it uprooted three huge trees on the Atwater property, then uprooting and snapping off more trees behind Georgi Beebe’s Crematory.
