Beginning on Saturday, May 23, the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Berlin made a difference by holding its annual Faith in Action Weekend.
The first event involved pre-kindergarten through fifth grade youth raising money for children orphaned by AIDS in Africa. Shooting over 5,000 basketballs, this determined group of children raised over $300 for Hoops of Hope!
The second event comprised of a varied combination of sixth grade students through adult age. They managed to aid our local fire department by providing a fresh coat of paint to 31 fire hydrants in Berlin (and a little on themselves too!), not to mention redoing some needed painting at the Berlin Firehouse.
The third group provided a free, delicious Soup and Sandwich Luncheon. A few guests from the Town of Berlin and those who volunteered their time and put their “faith in action” had plenty to eat! Some of the extras were given to the Berlin Community Food Closet for families in need.
The last happening entailed Church members handing out free bottles of water and cans of soda at the Memorial Day Parade. Hundreds of free drinks were given and enjoyed by parade participants and onlookers.
Volunteers joined together to make a difference practicing very purposeful acts of kindness and service throughout the community. It was a huge success overall!
