After attending the breakfast at the Berlin Fire Department, Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote made a visit to the Berlin Food Closet on Sunday, June 6. They met Stacey Sicko, the Program Co-ordinator, to generously donate a large freezer chest. The Food Closet has seen a significant increase of people needing food during this difficult economy. Its mission is to provide the community of Berlin a “closet of comfort and relief to those in need.” In addition to
providing assistance with food, this nonprofit organization has on occasion provided financial assistance for electric and fuel bills in the event of a crisis or emergency. Their new summer hours are every first and third Saturday, 9 to 10 am and every second and fourth Tuesday, 11 am to 12 pm. The pantry will be closed on the Fourth of July. Residents of Berlin are encouraged to take advantage of the Berlin Food Closet if they are in need. It is housed at the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Berlin at 47 North Main Street in Berlin.
