Charles J. O’Neill

Hoosick Falls – Charles J.”Chuck” O’Neill, 81, who resided on Clay Hill Road Hoosick Falls, NY, died May 27, 2009, in Bennington, VT, following a long illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 21, 1927. He was the son of John C. and Helen M. McLaughlin O’Neill. He received his education in Troy, NY, where he graduated from Catholic Central High School. He later attended Embry Riddle School of Aeronautics in Florida. A World War II veteran, Mr. O’Neill served as a sergeant in the Air Force. He married the former Joan Murphy at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls on August 25, 1951. In earlier years Mr. O’Neill was employed as an aeronautical mechanic at the Newark Airport in New Jersey and Troy Airport in New York. He also worked at General Electric in Schenectady, NY, on the long range missile testing program as well as engine development. Charlie was employed as General Manager at Page Airways Avjet at the Albany County Airport for the majority of his career in aviation. He later owned and operated the New Falls Motel in Hoosick Falls. Charlie enjoyed flying, gardening and especially sailing. His family and grandchildren were his main interest. He loved to play sports with his grandchildren.
He leaves his wife, Joan O’Neill of Hoosick Falls, their children, Deborah A. O’Neill Lockemeyer of Shortsville, NY, Robert F. O’Neill and his wife Debra and their children Robert and Julianna of Exeter, NH, Timothy J. O’Neill and his wife Patricia and their children Charles, Sam, William and Zoey of Fredericksburg, VA, and Mary Ellen O’Neill and her son Noah Chani of Hoosick Falls. He is also survived by a brother, John C. O’Neill of Keystone Heights, FL, a sister, Helen Syndennis of Matawan, NJ, three nephews, Michael O’Neill, Joseph Syndennis and Louis Syndennis, and two nieces, Theresa Syndennis and Peggy O’Neill. He was pre-deceased by a brother Robert O’Neill.
Services were private and held at the Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, May 30. Burial took place in the family lot in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Contributions in memory of Charles J. O’Neill may be made to Saint Mary’s Academy, 4 Parsons Ave., Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.
