June 26, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
Begin a spectacular tour of 10 area gardens at the Hoosick Falls Health Center on Sunday, July 12. The Health Center and Auxiliary are holding only one fund raiser this year, and they are calling it “The Art of Gardening.” The event will run from noon to 5 pm. Tickets are $15.
The tour starts at the Health Center where works of art by the residents will be on display. Everyone will have an opportunity to visit the Center’s beautiful patio and courtyard with its fountain, rose bushes, vegetables, herbs, hanging baskets, perennials and annuals.

Carol Whitelaw is an associate Occupational Therapist at the Center. She is also a Master Gardener. She oversees the gardens and works with the residents to keep them looking lovely. One box in the garden contains radishes, carrots, peas, swiss chard and lettuce. Some of the hanging baskets contain cherry tomatoes. A variety of containers on the patio hold basil, tomatoes, squash, parsley, beets and nasturtiums as well as beautiful potted foliage and flowering plants.
After a tour of the Center’s grounds ticket holders will follow a map to 10 gardens in Hoosick Falls, Hoosick,  White Creek, Eagle Bridge, Buskirk and Johnsonville. These gardens contain annuals, perennials, fountains, brooks, creative stone work and corners in which to relax and enjoy the beauty of it all. The tour is an ideal opportunity to pick up some spectacular ideas for your own garden.
Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling Margaret LeStage at 686-7949 or Sandra Phelps at 686-5326. They will be available at the Health Center the day of the Tour. Margaret and Sandra expect to have tickets available at the first Band Concert in Wood Park on Wednesday, July 1.
