Howard J. Chittenden, Jr.

Stephentown – Howard J. “Dooley” Chittenden, Jr., 50, of Route 43, Stephentown, NY, died on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, MA, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Troy, NY, on February 14, 1959, he was the son of Howard J. and Arlene T. Yerke Chittenden, Sr. of Stephentown. A lifelong resident of Stephentown, Dooley was a 1976 graduate of Berlin Central High School. He also attended Questar III vocational school for Forestry Management. Dooley worked as a logger and mason along with being employed by W. J. Cowee, Co., Inc. in Berlin, NY. His hobbies include NASCAR (especially Mark Martin), gambling and coloring. Dooley was best known for “holding court” at the local Cumberland Farms where he was known by all. He was a 30 year member of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors, besides his parents, include his siblings, William R. Chittenden of Ghent, NY, Sandra L. and husband Thomas Owens of Berlin, Tina L. and husband Jim Phillips of Stephentown, and Hugh B. and wife Dee Chittenden of Hudson, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be on Friday evening, June 26, at 7 pm in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, where Rev. Trygve Tomlinson will officiate. Interment will be private in the Berlin Community Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home for visitation on Friday from 4 pm until the start of the service.
Dooley requested that instead of flowers he wanted contributions to be made to the Capital District Cancer Resource Foundation, PO Box 610, Latham, NY, 12110.
