Joyce M. Miner

Bennington – Mrs. Joyce Marie (McIntire) Miner, 59, wife of John Miner, died peacefully at her home on Beech Street in Bennington, VT, on Sunday, June 14, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bennington on August 28,1949, Joyce was the daughter of the late Herbert A. and Marjorie (Woodard) McIntire. Joyce grew up in Bennington where she attended local schools, graduating from the first class at Mt. Anthony Union High School in 1968. She was married in Bennington to John Miner on April 22,1972.
She enjoyed helping others especially youth level sports including baseball, football and bowling. She also enjoyed working with and supporting veterans. She was a member of the Associates of the Vietnam Veterans where she served as editor of the local publication for 12 years. She and John were very active in local and state veterans’ affairs, especially the Vietnam veterans. She loved bowling and had been a member of the ladies Green Mountain League. She also liked to spend  time fishing. Joyce was an avid NASCAR fan and followed Jeff Gordon for many years until she switched to Jimmie Johnson’s team. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and  grandmother; her favorite companion was her dog, Hero.
Joyce leaves her husband of 37 years, John Miner, sons, Wayne Stevens of Hoosick Falls, NY, and Tad Miner of Bennington, a daughter, Tammy Wilt of Hoosick Falls, a brother, Gary McIntire of Florida, six grandchildren, Jessica and Chris Stevens, Matthew Wilt, Padriagh, Camron and Johnathan Miner, a great-grandson, Ryan LaPorte, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Barbara Clairmont.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 17, at 1:30 pm at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington with Reverend Robin Greene officiating. A memorial gathering followed at the V.F.W. Post 1332 in Bennington. Interment services will be private in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington, VT.
Should friends desire, memorial gifts in memory of Joyce may be made to the Bennington Veterans Honor Roll in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT, 05201.
