Leverne Bentley

East Poestenkill – Leverne C. “Vern” Bentley, 72, of Plank Road, East Poestenkill, NY, died suddenly on Friday, June 19, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Petersburgh, NY, Vern was the son of the late Chauncey and Gladys Jones Bentley and husband of Gail Goyer Bentley. A resident of  Poestenkill since 1958,Vern retired in 1990 from the Troy Boiler Works where he had been a union boilermaker. He had been a boilermaker for over 40 years and had also worked out of Union Local #197 and Empire Welding. Vern served in the Army from 1959-1961. At the time of his death, Vern was a member and President of the Petersburgh Rod & Gun Club. Vern enjoyed hunting, his camp on Lake Champlain, NASCAR and go-cart racing with his grandchildren. He had at one time built and raced his own stock cars and had also restored cars.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his children, Scott and wife Diane Bentley, Terry and husband Tom Iwanowicz, Tonya and husband Larry Mullen and Wendy and husband William Barber, all of East Poestenkill, his sisters, Betty Saunders of Lebanon, NY, and Bertha Wagar of Nevada and eleven grandchildren.
A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, June 23, at 11 am at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 NY 43, at Glass Lake, Averill Park.
Relatives and Friends were invited and also called at the Funeral Chapel on Monday from 4 to 8 pm. Interment was in the Brookside Cemetery in Poestenkill, NY.
If desired, the family suggests donations in memory of Leverne Bentley be made to the Petersburgh Rod & Gun Club, PO Box 211, Petersburgh, NY, 12138, or the American Diabetes Assoc., Pine West Plaza Building 2, Suite 204, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY, 12205.
