Petersburgh – Peter William Vella, 72, of Petersburgh, NY, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, after a long illness.
Born in Manhattan, NY, and a resident of Westhampton Beach, Long Island, NY, for many years, Mr. Vella retired from Newsday in Melville, NY, and spent his latter years enjoying a quiet life in Petersburgh.  He served in the U.S. Army.  “Pete” enjoyed his gardening and tended to his fruit trees and berries as a passion!  The “fruits of his labor” were outdone by none!  Some of his prized favorites were his delicious raspberries he so proudly grew and that his family and friends enjoyed.

He is also survived by his loving sister, Marian Jimmo of Tampa, FL, as well as eleven wonderful grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.  Mr. Vella was also the father of the late Colleen Trimpin, the brother of the late Grace Remy of Tampa and the late Edwin Vella of Virginia.
A graveside funeral was held Wednesday, June 10, at 1 pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.  Expressions of Sympathy may be sent c/o Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, NY, 12138.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o C. Cole, 117 Lincoln Rd., Longmeadow, MA, 01106.
