Petersburgh Library Summer Reading Program

June 26, 2009 By eastwickpress

“Be Creative @ The Petersburgh Public Library” is the theme of this summer’s reading program.  Activities begin Monday, July 6, at 10:30 am with “Paper-Making.”  The paper wasp was the first living creature to make paper.  Find out how this small insect makes his paper and then find out how people make paper today.  Create your own recycled paper to bring home. Presented by the Dyken Pond Environmental Center.
“Commotion in the Ocean” will be the theme of story hour on Tuesday, July 7, at 10 am. Preschoolers will read stories, do a hands-on activity and learn about the wonderful commotion that goes on in the ocean.
“Water Dwellers’ Nature Crafts” will be presented on Wednesday, July 8, at 2 pm.  A story about pond life will be followed by a nature craft.  Children will have an assortment of materials to make crafty critters with, whether they’re a fan of fish, frogs or turtles. Take your pick of crafts and learn a little about these interesting animals found in Grafton Lakes State Park.  Presented by the Grafton Lakes State Park staff.
There will be special art programs presented as three day workshops on Monday-Wednesday, at 10:30 am, on July 13-15, by Ann Kremers and on Tuesday-Thursday, July 21-22, by Dennis Fougere. Sign-up is required. Please stop by the Library to sign-up or call the Library at 658-2927.
“Paint the Petersburgh Library’s Bug Parade” will be presented by Ann Kremers.  Look at them hard and look at them long. How many legs and how many eyes, how many wings are on these things?  Draw them and paint them until you really know.  Scramble them up and turn them around.  What would a bug look like that you made up?  Draw it and paint it, show us your design and join the Petersburgh Library’s Bug Parade. More details will follow for the second art program.
