Prom And Graduation Season Is A Dangerous Time For Our Youth

June 26, 2009 By eastwickpress

The Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents and Youth reminds parents and all adults in the community that it is against the law to allow alcoholic beverages to be consumed in your home by minors.
Every year 5,000 young people lose their lives to alcohol-related incidents. That is more than all the American deaths that have occurred in the war in Iraq. Does anybody care? Underage drinking is referred to as “a rite of passage.” People say it is going to happen and they just accept it.
Social host legislation is in effect in Hoosick Falls. It just passed in Washington County. What this means is it is against the law to allow underage youth to consume alcoholic beverages and/or marijuana on your premises. Premises includes backyards and adjacent outbuildings. Anyone aged 16 years and above who allows underage youth, youth below the age of 21, to drink on their premises may be arrested, incarcerated and fined. If anyone is injured at the party, or as a result of the party, a civil suit may occur.
Auto crashes, injuries resulting from drunken behavior, rape, unwanted pregnancy and  STDs are all common results of underage drinking. Please join HAPPY, the Hoosick Falls Central School and ADAPT in their efforts to keep our children safe. Don’t allow alcohol to be consumed by minors at your home.
Serving alcoholic beverages to young people under the age of 21 is against the law.
Create Memories, Not Regrets. Celebrate Sober.
