Stephentown Library Gets Japanese Books Through Toyota Grant

June 5, 2009 By eastwickpress

The American Library Association, thanks to a generous grant from Toyota Motor Corporation, was able to offer as a benefit to 200 public libraries that are ALA organizational members, a set of 50 translated works of Japanese modern fiction and non-fiction. The Stephentown Memorial Library was one of the 200 libraries selected to receive this collection of books.
The translated work of award winning authors provide a great sampling of popular works from Japan in many genres – fiction, fantasy, mystery, horror, historical, Manga, etc.
These books, already found separately in libraries across the United States, will add diversity to the Library collection and introduce many readers to new authors.
The Stephentown Memorial Library invites the public to visit during June and check out the new books which will be on a special display.  We will have some upcoming programs that will further spotlight Japanese culture in the next few months.  Topics will include origami, bento lunch box ideas and more.  Call the Library and check our website at www.stephentownlibrary.org for announcements of these programs.
