Car Veers Into Ravine In Buskirk

July 17, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Brian Houle
An early morning crash in  Buskirk on July 15 sent at least one person to an area hospital. New York State Police responded to a report that a car exiting NY Route 22 veered off Grandma Moses Road. When the troopers got to the scene no car could be seen, but after noticing a chunk of debris on the shoulder of the road they spotted a tan car more than 150 feet down an embankment and smashed into a tree. The North Hoosick Fire Department was dispatched for traffic control to shut down both ends of the road and to assist in the high angle rescue of the patient from the car and up the steep slope to the awaiting ambulance crew from the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad.

After about 1 hours and with help from the fire department sawing down a tree that was making the recovery of the vehicle very difficult, requiring numerous trips up and down the steep hill by the tow operator to secure the towing straps, the car was finally taken away to the towing facility.
