In recognition of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Henry Hudson in the Upper Hudson Valley, New Lebanon Town Historian Kevin Fuerst, in conjunction with the Lebanon Valley Historical Society will discuss the Dutch contact with the Mohicans. He will describe how, following Hudson’s sole visit, the Dutch and Native Americans developed trade and social relationships with ramifications that lasted long after contact.
Fuerst is a respected expert on the Native societies of the Hudson Valley, performing independent research on Native history, and collaborating closely with other historians and representatives of the remaining tribes.
Contact 1609 will be presented on Monday, July 20, at 7 pm at the Samson Environmental Center, on the Darrow School Campus, 110 Darrow Road, New Lebanon. For directions, call Doug Banker at 518-794-9764.
This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
