Berlin – Geneva M. Baldwin Cioffi, 93, of Plank Road, Berlin, NY, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at the Community Hospice at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, NY, after a short illness. Born in Watertown, NY, Geneva was the daughter of the late Robert T. and Bessie Marks Oatman and wife of the late Howard R. Baldwin and Charles H. Cioffi. Geneva had resided in the area since her childhood. During WW II she had worked at Behr Manning and during the Korean War she had worked at the Arsenal in Watervliet, NY. Geneva was a private duty nurse working for area families and had also been a nurse’s aide at the Troy Jewish Home. Geneva had worked for a number of years for Dr. Ray Palmer Baker where she had been his housekeeper and cook. Geneva enjoyed gardening, cooking and was an avid reader.
Geneva was the mother of the late Howard R. “Inkie” and William H. Baldwin and sister of the late Aldina Austin.
Survivors include her children, Theodore R. Baldwin of Waterford, George T. Baldwin of Petersburgh, NY, Jack J. Baldwin of Florida and Lawrence E. Baldwin and James E. Baldwin of Stephentown, NY, her sister, Bessie Matt of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, several grandchildren, many great-grand and great-great-grandchildren and her special friend and caregiver, Joan Hill of Petersburgh.
The funeral service was Thursday, July 9, at 11 am at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 NY 43, at Glass Lake, Averill Park. Relatives and Friends were invited to the funeral chapel on Thursday from 9 to 11 am prior to the service. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Poestenkill, NY.
