Joseph J. LaMagdeleine

Hoosick Falls – Joseph J. “Pierre” LaMagdeleine, 85, died peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Samuel A. Stratton Veterans Hospital in Albany, NY. He resided on Wood Park Lane in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the husband of the late Ruth LaMagdeleine, who died on December 27, 2002.
Born on May 16, 1924, in Hoosick Falls, Joe was the son of the late Wilfret and Rose (Granger) LaMagdeleine. He was a life long resident of Hoosick Falls and attended St. Mary’s Academy. He joined the Army in 1942 serving until 1945. Upon returning from the Army to Hoosick Falls he met and married his wife Ruth.
Joe worked for many years at the Veterans Service Agency in Troy, NY, as a Veterans Benefit Representative. He also was active in politics in Hoosick Falls, where he4 had served as the Assessor. Upon his retirement he continued to help Veterans in obtaining their benefits. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hoosick Falls and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.
One of his proudest accomplishments was working at the “Kiddie Car Day Care,” where he became “Grandpa Joe” to many of the children in the community. His other great pleasure was spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Jo-Ann DiGuglielmo and husband Ralph of Sherman Oaks, CA, two grandchildren, Heather Finning and husband Timothy Spendiff and Cory Finning and wife Kayla, all of Cambridge, NY, two great-grandchildren, Cody Scott Estell and Zoe Lynn Finning, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe is also survived by his loving friends, Dennis, Pam, Sara and Aron Smith of Petersburgh, NY.
A Memorial Mass is being offered on Friday, July 24, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Interment services with full Military Honors will be held at noon in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Michael Hackett Memorial Fund or the Mattie and Eliza Whitman Educational Fund through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, who are handling the arrangements.
