Marion Louise Mitchell

Hoosick Falls – Marion Louise Mitchell, 98, of Hillcrest Spring, passed away on July 4, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY.
Born on March 13, 1911, in Hoosick Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Louisa (Albert) Williams. Marion graduated from Hoosick Falls High School, attended Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing and was employed in the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II.
Her husband, William Mitchell, whom she married on October 24, 1943, died on November 21,1966. She was also pre-deceased by three sisters, Anna Burns, May Wallace and Ruth Squires, a brother, Jerome, and a nephew, Robert Burns.
Marion was a past member and secretary of the Hoosick Falls Senior Citizens. She moved to Amsterdam in 1988, where she was a volunteer for the Montgomery County SPCA. Marion enjoyed her family – especially her grandsons – her dachshunds, her many books and her doll collection. She was active and independent until the age of 94. During her last four years, she was an example of amazing strength and perseverance.
Her loving family includes her daughter Laurie and son-in-law Emiliano Ilagan of Amsterdam, her grandsons, Alan and partner Andrew VanWagenen of Loudonville, NY, and Paul and wife Erin of Amsterdam, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, July 7, at 11 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Hillcrest Spring Adult Home in Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Dialysis Center, the Foundation of St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam or the Community Health Center of Johnstown through the funeral home.
