Petersburgh Public Library Events

July 17, 2009 By eastwickpress

The Observation Post will be the topic on Friday, July 17, at 10:30 am.  Learn the story behind the Petersburgh Observation Post.  Town Historian Peter Schaaphok will be telling us about the Observation Post and giving a tour for all to see how it was used during World War II.
There will be a special art program presented as a 3 day workshop on Tuesday-Thursday, July 21-23 by Dennis Fougere.  Sign-up is required, please stop by the Library to sign-up or call the Library at 658-2927.  Dennis Fougere will present Eye of the Artist. Dennis grew up in Petersburgh and finds himself back in the valley actively teaching and making art.  In this three day workshop, students will explore the methods and practices that aid the artist in understanding and pursuing the ideas, images and inspirations in the environment around them.  On day one we will make sketchbooks/journals out of mostly found/reclaimed materials and immediately begin filling them with drawings, ideas, images, etc.  Days two and three will be spent creating a mixed media project exploring the subject of who we are by creating secret “Identity Boxes” made from recycled/reclaimed materials and found objects.

On Monday, July 20, at 10:30 am the Scotia-Glenville Children’s Traveling Museum will present “Fantastic Colored Lizards.”  You will learn about lizards, see colorful wooden lizards handmade by Zapotec Indians and make a brightly colored lizard to keep.   Pre-schoolers are invited to story hour entitled “Colors of the Rainbow” on Tuesday, July 21, at 10:00 am.  Pre-schoolers will have the opportunity to learn the spectacular colors of a rainbow with stories and a creative activity.

On Wednesday, July 22, at 2 pm.  Martha vonSchilgen will present Easy Origami.  Join us to learn how to create with this Japanese paper craft.

“Mysterious Bats” will be the topic of the presentation by the Scotia-Glenville Children’s Traveling Museum on Friday, July 24, 10:30 am.  Learn about these fascinating creatures through songs, sounds and hands-on artifacts.
