Rare Plant Field Trip At Dyken Pond

July 24, 2009 By eastwickpress

The Capital District Friday Field Group is a mix of amateur and professional naturalists formed in 1994 that meets weekly between April and September to explore features of natural sites in the Capital Region. Several trips are planned in Rensselaer County for the 2009 season. The trips are free and the public is welcome.
On Friday, July 24, at 5:30 pm we will continue last year’s efforts to relocate and monitor several county-rare plants historically known from Dyken Pond Center.  This year we will focus on the western half of the preserve, looking for plants such as milfoil bladderwort, pinesap and snowberry. Bring footwear appropriate for wetlands.
Contact David Hunt at 518-279-4124 for the meeting place. Other upcoming trips of the group include Little Bowman Pond in Taborton (August 7), Campbell Island in Schodack (August 14), Quacken Kill Mouth in Brunswick (August 21) and Quacken Kill Swamp in Grafton (September 25).
