Raymond George Rogers

Hoosick Falls – Raymond George Rogers, 84, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, surrounded by his family, after a long illness. He resided on High Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife Joan (Hewson) Rogers, whom he married on October 6, 1951.
Born on September 11, 1924, in Cambridge, NY, Raymond was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Mills) Rogers. Graduating from Cambridge Central School in 1941, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army and served valiantly as an Army Medic in World War II in the Seven Steps to Hell Regiment. Post-war, Raymond received an A.S. degree in Math from the Veterans Vocational School in 1947, now known as Hudson Valley Community College. He began his carpentry career working with George Warren Construction, followed by working with Martin J. Rogers Construction, and later he started his own company, Rogers Roofing and Gutters, where he worked until his retirement.
Raymond was an honorary alumnus of St. Mary’s Academy, an honorary member of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, a life member of Hoosick Falls Elks #178, an active participant in Hoosier Hopefuls, Relay for Life Team, and a faithful communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Survivors, other than his beloved wife Joan, include his children, Dorothy and her husband John Vars of Wynantskill, NY, Mary and her husband John Burdick, James Rogers and Joan Rogers Jr. all of Hoosick Falls, Michael and his wife Stacy Rogers of Latham, NY, Rosemarie Rogers and Richard Stowell of Hoosick Falls, and Faye and her husband Gary McCormick of North Walpole, NH, seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Raymond is also survived by a sister, Agnes Rogers, and brother, John and his wife Karen Rogers all of Cambridge, NY. He is pre-deceased by brothers, Martin (Olga) Rogers and Frank (Marguerite) Rogers, and a sister, Stella (Rogers) Schmidt.
Funeral services are Friday, July 31, at 10:15 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, July 30, from 4 to 8 pm. Member of Elks #567 will perform their ritual service at 7:45 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
