Stewart’s Holiday Match Grant Kicks Off HACA Back 2 School Boost

July 24, 2009 By eastwickpress

School has just closed for the summer, but already thoughts of how to get the children ready for back to school have already crossed the minds of many parents faced with hard times. For the fifth year, HACA will again be able to assist families with school supplies. A grant from Stewart’s Holiday Match program will kick off the drive to provide supplies to both HFCS and St. Mary’s elementary schools. The goal this year is to provide supplies for 75 fully stocked, grade appropriate backpacks. Essential products will be provided to the teachers for distribution to the children in time for opening day of school. A donation of $20 sponsors one back pack filled with supplies. You can shop for supplies yourself, too. Supplies may be dropped off at the HACA Ministry Center 26 John Street, Monday or Friday from 10 am to 12 noon, Wednesday 6:30 to 8 pm or at any area church. Supplies also may be purchased at the Grand Union and left in the HACA Food Closet grocery cart in the front of the store. Businesses wishing to be a drop off site for supplies may call Dianne Hosterman at 686-5310 or Norma Brenenstuhl at 686-9530. The supplies will be presented to the school the last week of August. Donations may be sent to PO Box #1. Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, indicate “Back 2 School Boost.”
Suggestions for supplies include the following: #2 pencils, pink erasers, crayons, washable markers, glue sticks, liquid glue, blunt tip scissors, 2 pocket folders, pencil cases, spiral notebooks, antibacterial wipes or hand gel, tissues, 12” ruler (standard and metric), highlighters, loose leaf paper, colored pencils, index cards, 3 ring binders, black or blue pens, protractors, calculators and back packs.
Families in need of supplies should contact their child’s school.
