What can a two hundred and fifty ton crane lift? Well, on Tuesday the giant crane moved the old Caretaker’s Bridge off its base and moved it to the side so welders could begin dismantling it. The 250 ton Crane Of The Year 2008 is across the Walloomsac River from an excavator on the near side which was removing the old footings that held the bridge. The cement where the bridge had previously rested on the far side can be seen through the arch of the excavator working on the Barnett House side. On Wednesday the operator was stacking the remnants of the bridge to be placed in a dumpster to be hauled away.
