Events At Area State Parks

1 pm, Saturday, August 15 – Who Lives in the Pond? Did you know dragonflies start their lives living in the water?  Come search for them and other small but fascinating aquatic critters with the Park’s summer Pond Research intern, Zach Presley.  Nature detectives of all ages are encouraged to attend.  Meet at Beach Nature Center by Long Pond Beach in Grafton Lakes State Park. For more information, call the Park Naturalist at 279-1155.
8:30 pm, Saturday, August 15 – Star Watch at Cherry Plain State Park
with Albany Area Astronomers. See Jupiter and Neptune through their telescopes, weather permitting. Call 658-9144 to confirm.
August 15 and 16, Saturday and Sunday – Bennington Battlefield Commemoration Weekend with re-enactors, displays and activities all weekend from 10 to 4 pm in Walloomsac, NY. Call 686-8266  for more information.
2 pm, Sunday, August 16 – Freshwater Invertebrates in Grafton Lakes State Park.  The Park’s Pond Research intern, Zach Presley, will guide you through his summer study of the Park’s lakes and their lesser known inhabitants, who are amazing to see, and can tell us about the health of these precious waters.  This presentation is suitable for adults. Held at Shaver Nature Center, 194 Shaver Pond Road in Grafton. Please call the Park Naturalists for more information.
