Grafton Library Helps Grafton Youth Get Creative

On August 10 Joy Schillinger visited the Town of Grafton Summer Youth Program at Grafton Elementary to present a Wax Resist Watercolor Painting program sponsored by the Grafton Community Library to help the youngsters get creative, the theme for this year’s New York State Summer Reading Program.

letters of the alphabet can aid in drawing a silhouette of a tree. The children were encouraged to individualize their art by adding other elements to their drawing – a swing, the moon, stars, birds. Next, with brushes swirling, details that were drawn with the white crayons were revealed as the children brought their paintings to life when every inch of the paper was washed with watercolor paint.
Joy Schillinger of Grafton graduated from Berlin Central in 2005 and is a senior art education major at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. She will be student teaching this fall and is working towards earning certification to teach art in grades k through 12.
