Mary LaPorte

Hoosick Falls – Mary LaPorte, 93, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. She formerly resided at the Wood Bridge Apartments in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of the late Walter LaPorte, who died in 1976.
Born on May 14, 1916, in Hoosick Falls, Mary was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Butkas) Sluzas. She attended St. Mary’s Academy and worked as a seamstress at the Classic Street Dress Shop and later at the Barclay Manufacturing Company, both in Hoosick Falls. Mary was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls.
Survivors include her sons, James LaPorte and his wife Barbara of North Hoosick, NY, and Mark LaPorte of New Jersey, her sister, Helen Restino and husband Thomas of Hoosick Falls, two grandchildren, Wendy Pilot and husband Doug and Cindy LaPorte and Chris, a sister-in-law, Olive Sluzas of Cambridge, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Mary was pre-deceased by two brothers, Walter and Victor Sluzas.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, August 15, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial followed the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. There were no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad or the Sister’s of St. Joseph Carondelet through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, who  handled the arrangements.
