Hoosick Falls – Michael J. Restino, 92, passed away at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, Sunday, August 16, 2009, with his loving wife Winnie by his side. They had resided on Hall Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Michael was born on August 18, 1916, in Hoosick Falls to the late Saverio (Sam) and Albina (Illuzzi) Restino. He was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps, Eighth Air Force, in supply. Mike retired from the Washington Avenue State Armory in Albany, NY.
When he could see, he had a beautiful garden, sharing the vegetables with his neighbors all summer long. Mike was a seventy-year life member of the Hoosick Falls and Bennington Lodge of Elks and a fifty-eight year life member of the American Legion Post # 40 in Hoosick Falls. He loved to play poker, to go to the Saratoga Race Track and to go on summer vacations at Hampton Beach and trips to England. When he retired Winnie and Mike would take great trips with the Hoosick Falls Seniors, thanks to Ken and Ann Fleming for the wonderful times and great memories. Mike was a great Yankee fan, and he will be missed by his feline companion, Smokey.
Survivors other than his wife Winnie include his loving sister, Lucy Allen of Hoosick, NY, his brother, Joe Restino and wife Pauline of Bennington, VT, his nephew, Fr. Joseph M. Scerbo, S.A. PhD., his loving nieces, Patty Allen and husband Richard, and Anne Marie Erano and husband Pat, his nephew, Joseph Benkoski and wife Bonnie, and his wonderful neighbor, Bonnie Smith, who have done so much for Mike and Winnie during this stressful time. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Florida and Bennington and cousins, especially Margaret Hoffman. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Nina Pitcheralle, Angie Scerbo, Nancy Benkoski and Marie Restino, and his brothers, Thomas, Angelo and John Restino.
Funeral services were Wednesday, August 19, at 9:15 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls.
