“I’ve Known Rivers” – Marking And Mayorga In Concert

September 25, 2009 By eastwickpress

Rivers have always inspired artists – as symbols of movement and passages, time and inevitability, whimsy and joy, power and passion. Composers from Haydn to Mancini have written about rivers and their impact on our lives.
On Saturday, September 26, at 8 pm join baritone Steven Marking and pianist Lincoln Mayorga at Hubbard Hall for an entertaining and inspiring evening of

music that celebrates Rivers. Travel with these two gifted performers as they take their audience from Oratorio to Show Tunes, passing through the American Songbook and Spirituals, on an enchanting musical journey of exploration and inspiration.
“Baritone Steven Marking’s singing seems effortless at the very top of the range, where his voice is rich and clear, yet he is equally at home in the low registers and in everything in between.  His “I’ve Known Rivers” is an impressive array of songs and styles, and he moves smoothly from classical to folk to Broadway with a sense of style appropriate to each.  I recommend this program highly!” David Griggs-Janower, Artistic Director, Albany Pro Musica.
Lincoln Mayorga has enjoyed one of the busiest studio careers in Hollywood. From staff pianist for Walt Disney Studios to pianist, arranger and conductor for such diverse artists as Johnny Mathis, Barbra Streisand, Marni Nixon, Vikki Carr, Mel Torme, Phil Ochs, Andy Williams, Frank Zappa and Quincy Jones, Mayorga has become recognized as a champion of American music.
“The eminent pianist and teacher Karl Ulrich Schnabel claimed few pianists could play classical and non-classical styles equally well, with one exception: the wonderfully named Lincoln Mayorga.” – Jed Distler
