Hoosick Falls – Eleanor R. Metcalfe Carpenter, 93, longtime resident of Hoosick Falls, NY, died on Monday evening, September 21, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at the Hoosick Falls Health Center where she had resided since 2000. She was under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born in Stillwater, NY, on May 27, 1916, she was the only child of the late Albert and Leah Drumm Metcalfe. She was the loving wife of the late Walter Carpenter, who died on August 31, 1990. They were married in Poughkeepsie, NY, on February 28, 1970.
Eleanor was raised and educated in Stillwater and Hoosick Falls, where she moved at age 12. She had worked in various factories in Hoosick Falls and Bennington, VT. Eleanor worked for the Undergarment Co. in Hoosick Falls until it closed. She retired in 1978 from Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury, VT. Eleanor was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls where she enjoyed the company of friends and family at Church functions. She was also a member of the Hoosick Senior Citizens. She enjoyed knitting for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Edward A. and wife Patsy Blondin of Boise, ID, William J. and wife Edith Blondin of Chelsea, VT, and Margaret A. “Peg” Stevens of Bennington, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service is on Friday at 10 am in the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls, Main Street, where Pastor Thomas Azar is to officiate. Burial follows in the Maple Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
