Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange had a meeting on August 26. It was election of officers night. David Cornell was elected Master, Carleton Philpott was elected Overseer, Corinne Philpott – Lecturer, David Schmidt – Steward, Omer Brenenstuhl – Assistant Steward, Norma Brenenstuhl – Lady Asst. Steward, Marion Cipperly – Chaplain, Helen Filkins – Treasurer, Elsie Marpe – Secretary, Martha Babbitt – Gatekeeper, Mary Marpe – Ceres, Marion Hynick – Pomona, Louise Slingerland – Flora, Executive Committee – 3 years – Omer Brenenstuhl, 2 years – Allen Cornell, 1 year – Marion Brenenstuhl.
The Flora and Fair Committee gave reports. Betty Kipp was in charge of the Lecturer’s Program. Her theme was “What’s So Funny About Getting Old?” She told us many humorous things about getting old and lots of stories and jokes. You know you’re getting old when you can’t go anywhere without a sweater. She told us many celebrity jokes. Betty read a poem by Gilbert Wright titled “The Old Man’s Shop” and what she learned about aging. Fools learn from experience. She read quotes from Tom Brokaw’s book. Betty told about things that were good in the 30, 40 and 50 years. She had another poem titled “It’s Just My Age,” by Gilbert Wright. We had a game Tic Tack Toe with lots of prizes and winners. She told about a Gift of Love and had a blessing and Thank You. The Lecturer thanked Betty about the getting old program; her way is more fun.
On September 9, Grange had an open meeting with Omer and Marion Brenenstuhl in charge of the program. They had a speaker, Kathryn Sheehan. She talked about Road Signs. Everyone having viewed this program found it very interesting.
Refreshments for our next meeting are Edna and Allen Cornell. David Cornell was in charge of the refreshments for the evening.
