Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange had an open meeting on September 9. The Lecturer presented to the Master, David Cornell, the first place Blue Ribbon from the Schaghticoke Fair. She thanked everyone who helped.
Marion and Omer Brenenstuhl were in charge of the program for the evening. Marion introduced their speaker, Kathryn Sheehan. Kathryn is Rensselaer County Historian. She had slides on New York State Historic Markers in Rensselaer County. She started out with the marker of Ball Seminary in Hoosick Falls. The marker cost $200. Anyone can do a historic marker. You tell what you want written on it and send it to The Kattskill Casting Company. That is where they sent it back then. Kathryn showed slides of The First Meeting House – 1800 Baptist Church, the Gilead Church – the oldest Lutheran Church, 1742, Grandma Moses, Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick, Reynolds Farm, 1780 – American Revolution – on Donald Hewitt Farm, Chester Arthur  – President in Hoosick, Hoosick Baptist Church – 1780, Sam Wilson in Troy, Norman Rockwell in Troy, and she showed many more. She also told many stories that were very interesting. Everyone enjoyed them and thanked her. The Lecturer thanked her and the Brenenstuhls. Marion had a closing thought, “God stops and listens over you.”
Refreshments were provided by Edna and Allen Cornell.
The next meeting for the Grange is September 23. It’s Birthday Night and program planning night. The Refreshment Committee is Kendal Baker.
