The Hoosick Falls Central School football team improved to 3-0 on this young 2009 season last Friday evening, September 18, when they beat the host Brittonkill-Tamarac Bengals 40-13. Coach Ron Jones’ Panthers whipped the now 1-2 hosts in Class C North division play.
Panther senior running back Alex Hansen started the scoring in the first period when he scored from the five yard line. Junior place kicker Quinn Rasmus booted the

point after touchdown for a 7-0 Hoosick Falls lead. In the second quarter, Hansen scored again, this time on a 38 yard pass from junior quarterback Mike Brewster. The extra point was good as HFCS led 14-0. The Panthers took an insurmountable lead later in the same period when senior defensive back Logan O’Brien returned an interception 55 yards for a score. Rasmus added the PAT which put Hoosick Falls ahead, 21-0.
Tamarac closed the gap to 21-6 before the first half ended when Brian Gorman hauled in a 73 yard scoring pass from Nick Casale. The PAT was no good, and the half ended with HFCS ahead 21-6.
In the third quarter the Panthers put the game away for good. Hansen hauled in a 38 yard scoring pass from Brewster, good for a 27-6 Panther lead. The conversion points pass failed. Then Hoosick Falls struck again. Brewster scampered into the end zone from seven yards out, good for a 33-6 lead. The PAT kick failed, but HFCS led by a large margin. The Panthers then scored their final TD when Hansen went in from seven yards out. Rasmus’ PAT boot made the score 40-6 in favor of HFCS.
Tamarac scored their final TD when Nick Knauer scored on a 20 yard run. Cody Sargood’s PAT boot made the final score 40-13 in favor of HFCS.
Under the Goalposts:
HFCS entertains Stillwater tonight, and the 0-3 Warriors should provide token resistance as the Panthers’ first three opponents to date have been outscored 116-32. In week five, HFCS will most likely get a game from Rensselaer’s Rams. Then comes another tough ball game in week six as HFCS hosts Cambridge in the Ken Baker Jug Game. Elsewhere in Section 2 Class C action, Corinth beat Schuylerville 33-28, Taconic Hills beat Catholic Central 26-15, Mechanicville beat Stillwater 40-7, Cambridge beat Greenwich 41-0, Granville beat Hoosic Valley 33-20, Chatham beat Fonda 41-20, Canajoharie beat Coxsackie-Athens 25-14, Watervliet beat Ichabod Crane 64-0 and Voorheesville beat Cairo-Durham 42-12. Look for another one-sided score tonight when HFCS entertains Stillwater. It’s not that the Warriors will be that bad. It’s that HFCS will be that good.
