Children need healthy meals to learn. The Berlin Central School District offers healthy meals every school day. If your child is currently receiving free or reduced meals from the approved application you submitted last year (08/09 school year), these benefits ended on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. As of Thursday, October 1, your child’s status will be changed to full fee for the 09/10 school year. Breakfast costs $1, lunch costs $1.70 for elementary and $1.80 for high school.
You must submit a new application for the 09/10 school year in order for the benefits to continue. If you have submitted a direct certification letter from the NYS Department of Temporary and Disability Assistance for the 09/10 school year, you do not need to do anything.
Children from households that meet federal income guidelines are eligible for free meals or reduced price meals. Reduced price meals cost each eligible student $.25 for lunch and $.25 for breakfast. To apply for free or reduced price meals, submit a Direct Certification letter from the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance or complete an application, sign it and return it to Kellie Kaschak, School Nurse Teacher, Berlin Jr/Sr High School as soon as possible. All information is kept strictly confidential.
Applications and other important information can be found on our website at www.berlincentral.org. Select Lunch under quick links. Please complete and return the application directly to Kellie Kaschak as soon as possible. If you are currently ineligible for free or reduced meals, please be aware that if at any time during the year your economic status changes, you may apply at that time.
If you, for any, reason have not yet filled out an application to apply for free or reduced breakfast and lunch, you can still fill out the application and submit it.
If you have any questions, concerns or need an application mailed to you, please contact Kellie Kaschak at 518-658-2515, ext. 224 or Tammy Whitman at 518-658-2684, ext. 230 between the hours of 7:30 am and 2:30 pm.
