Robert Rice

Hoosick Falls – Robert (Bob) Rice, 73, died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Mechanic Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife Marguerite (Dooley) Rice, whom he married on June 13, 1959.
Born on December 30, 1935, in Bennington, Bob was the son of the late Raymond and Regina (Marcoux) Rice. He was a graduate of Ben-Hi High School and served in the United States Navy four years, during the Korean Conflict. Bob worked for many years at the former Wood Flong and Oak Materials, both in Hoosick Falls.
He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. As a young man he was an all around sportsman, excelling in baseball and basketball. He also coached youth baseball for many years. Bob’s family was the center of his life, and he was an avid Red Sox and New York Giants fan.
Survivors, other than his wife Peg, include children, Tony and wife Elva Rice of Hoosick Falls, John Rice of Oswego, NY, Mark and wife Debbie Rice of Pittstown, NY, and Sheila Rice and fiancé Scott Mather of Hoosick Falls, four grandchildren, Nicole, Holly, Mackenzie and Jack Rice, sisters, Rosemary and husband Russ Christie and Gail and husband John Ryan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, October 13, at 9:15 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial was at the Gerald B.H. Solomon/Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Monday, October 12, from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
