Stephentown Library Events

• The Second Annual Live & Silent Auction.  Check out the array of items at www.stephentownlibrary.cmarket.com. Items include delectable dinners, lawn service, firewood, handcrafted items, lift tickets for Jiminy Peak, artwork, antiques & collectibles, toys and kids items including autographed books by Mary Pope Osborne, and so much more.  Over 125 items are up for bid!  A great evening awaits you on Saturday, October 10, at 6 pm at the Stephentown Fire Hall. The Miracle Berry, an amazing fruit that, when eaten, changes the taste of sour to sweet, will be offered at the auction. Local entrepreneur Mark Prescott will make sugar-free mojitos to demonstrate the berry’s unusual ability to change the taste of food.  Prescott, who sells the miracle berry plant and a specially designed growing system, will be available to answer questions about growing your own plant and using the fruit for tasting parties, dieting and improving the taste of food for diabetics and cancer patients. Planting kits are available to buy or bid on. Admission to the auction is $15 and includes delicious food, beer/wine and entertainment.  Tickets are on sale now at SML or can be purchased at the door.  Last year’s event was the talk of the town.  Don’t miss out on the fun!
• Day of the Dead Program – Día de los muertos Program introduces Day of the Dead, a significant Mexican celebration of ancestors, culture and heritage. The program, presented by World Awareness Children’s Museum at SML on Thursday, October 15, at 4 pm, offers an interactive introduction delving into Mexican culture, the history of the celebration and the types of events that are held to honor ancestors. Elementary school students have a hands-on opportunity to try on clothing and masks from the Museum’s collection, make their own Calavera mask and practice the Mexican art of paper cutting known as Papel picado. Students learn that celebrating is an integral cultural activity shared by people all over the world. Advance registration is appreciated.
• Tween Night – Come join us for our popular monthly Tween Night for 10-14 year olds, featuring DDR – Dance Dance Revolution, board games, pizza and refreshments.  Bring your friends and show off your moves on Friday, October 16, at 6:30 pm at the Library. This event is free, but we ask that you register in advance.
• Celebrate Teen Read Week at SML – Call or check our website for events and look for book displays at the Library.  Teen Read Week is October 18 – 24.  This year’s theme is Read Beyond Reality.
