After an excellent showing at the Section II Cross Country Championships, Berlin sophomore Kayleigh Corrado took a big step up in competition last Saturday traveling to SUNY Plattsburgh to take on the rest of the top runners in New York State. Reaching this level of race is a great accomplishment for any runner but even more so for a first year runner like Corrado.
The weather conditions for the races were not exactly ideal, but that is to be expected this time of year in Northern New

York. The off and on rain of the early morning turned into consistent showers by late morning. By the time Corrado’s race started, the course had already seen five other races and the mud was starting to show. The race began shortly after 11 am, and the 119 runners embarked on the 3.1 mile course that brought them around the athletic fields and through the woods of the SUNY campus. Corrado finished 65th overall, in a time of 21:59. She, along with the other eleven runners from Section II, won the race among sections, defeating Section III 240-262.
