The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall will open its 11th season with a production of Henrik Ibsen’s revolutionary 19th century classic, A Doll’s House. The drama will be performed November 12 to December 6 at Hubbard Hall, 25 E. Main St., Cambridge.
Often called the first feminist play, A Doll’s House, which had its premiere performance in Oslo in 1879, chronicles the final revolt of a wife who has been treated as a plaything. Nora Helmer is a “wife and child” to her husband

Torvald and nothing more. She is his doll, a prototypical trophy wife on display to the world, of little value and even less utility in his life. Not surprisingly, Torvald reacts sadistically upon his discovery that Nora has managed financial affairs without his consent or knowledge. The play ends with a resonant and iconic slam of a door.
Laura Heidinger will direct a cast that includes company veterans Stephanie Moffett-Hynds (Nora), Jason Dolmetsch (Torvald), Richard Howe (Dr. Rank), Kim Johnson Turner (Mrs. Linde), Doug Ryan(Krogstad) and Deb Foster (Anne-Marie). Janet Scurria is the assistant director. Performances are November 12 (pay what you will, open rehearsal), 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28, December 4 and 5 at 8 pm and November 15, 22, 29 and December 6 at 2 pm.
“When I was asked to direct A Doll’s House, I kept coming back to Hubbard Hall’s beautiful proscenium stage,” said Heidinger. “The play was written just a few years before Hubbard Hall was built, so this is just the kind of space it would have been performed in.”
Tickets to A Doll’s House are $20 for Hubbard Hall members, $24 for non-members and $15 for students. For information and to purchase tickets, call 518-677-2495.
