Shirley May Brown

Stephentown – Shirley May Worthing Brown, 84, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
Born in Springfield, MA, on July 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm S. and Winifred E. Lewis Worthing. She was raised by her late grandmother, Jesse Oakes Worthing. Shirley had lived in Stephentown, NY, with her daughter, Judy, and son-in-law, Dana, for the last six years since moving from East Longmeadow, MA.
Shirley was educated at the Providence Bible Institute in Providence, RI,  from 1947 until her graduation in 1950, where she studied missions. She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hampton, MA, for over 50 years. She married her late husband, William Brown, in 1952. He died in 1995. She had cared for over 50 foster children through the years in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She loved music and was an fantastic pianist who played and sang in choirs in churches throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Shirley was an accomplished chalk artist.
She is survived by her children, Bradley Brown and Brian Pincomb, both of Springfield, MA, Fred White of Oregon, Jimmy, Robert Rochester of Las Vegas, NV, and Judy Tarr, with whom she resided, sisters, Elaine Worthing of Palmer, MA, and Marilyn Worthing of Munson, MA, and a brother, Richard Worthing of Myrtle Beach, SC, along with many grandchildren.
Following Shirley’s wishes, she will be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 21, at 1 pm in the Petersburgh Baptist Church, Route 22, Petersburgh, NY, where Rev. J. Mark Norlund, pastor, will officiate. A time of fellowship will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews in care of: On Wings of Eagles, 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2600, Chicago, IL, 60602 or online at www.ifcj.org Arrangements are under the guidance of the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home of Stephentown.
