Sunday, June 20, 1852: I and my wife walked up to P. Hatch’s to see his wife for she remains quite sick and not to live but a short time. Today John F. and his two sisters returned home from Samuel Beers on a visit.
Wednesday: This afternoon Geo P. and Sarah started for Troy and Albany. I handed Sarah ten dollars towards buying her a silk dress. They stayed tonight to Mr. Rufus Withees.
Friday: Towards night John F. rode over to my Rodgers farm with Mr. Steel to look at some sheep we have to sell but he did not buy them. This evening Geo P. and Sarah O. returned home from Albany and Troy after trading some. Sarah paid eleven dollars for a black silk dress and three dollars for to have her hat and Charlotte’s altered. In Albany they called on the widow Freelove Wylie.
Sunday: Today the wife of Philander Hatch died and tonight Geo P. and Charlotte E. watched with the corpse to P. Hatch’s.
Tuesday: I and my wife and two sons and daughter Charlotte E. walked to funeral to P. Hatch’s to the funeral of his wife. Elder (blank) from Lebanon preached. Today an Irishman began to work for me by the name of John, for three months at ten dollars per month. This morning Mr. Belcher from Hancock came and bought nine fowls and paid me two dollars for them.
Wednesday: I this morning drove a cow to J. B. Maxon’s and this forenoon mended fence and stopped sheep holes on my Rodgers farm where my sheep got into my oats and old Mr. Aaron Merrils came and told me my sheep had been in my oats and Mr. Sparowhawk came and helped Merrils get them out. I had a hard thunder coming home.
