Town Council Race In Petersburgh Unresolved

November 6, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks
In the Petersburgh Town Council race, Bill Seel has been re-elected, but it is not clear yet whether Amy Manchester or Teresa Scicchitano-deWaal will win the other seat. Manchester was conducting a write-in campaign, and there were technical difficulties over the course of the day with people trying to write her name in, which disabled one of the voting machines and led to a visit from county election officials and the use of emergency paper ballots. Unofficial tallies kept by Democratic poll-watcher Dan McCumber and Supervisor Peter Schaaphok did not agree with each other, but both showed Manchester ahead, in one case by 13 votes and the other by 20. However, the official result remains very much uncertain, since absentee ballots have not yet been counted and it remains to be seen if a review of the voting difficulties by the County Board of Elections will affect the tally.
