A Child’s Christmas In Wales

December 11, 2009 By eastwickpress

The North Chatham Free Library is pleased to present a reading of Dylan Thomas’ “A Child’s Christmas In Wales” at 3 pm on Sunday, December 13.
In “A Child’s Christmas In Wales” Dylan Thomas, the great Welsh poet, remembers Christmas in the little Welsh sea town where he grew up. The story is rich with period details (tea-trays, postmen, parsnip wine), but it calls to mind every childhood memory of Christmas.  It is brief, about a half-hour in the telling, funny and very beautiful. Small children will enjoy the words and the word-pictures, young people will recognize that world as their own and older folks will recall the spirit and sensations of their childhood holidays.
The piece will be read by Julie Kabat, a singer and composer dedicated to exploring poetry as a performance art. The reading is in honor of the late Steve Gilborn, a gifted professional actor and resident of North Chatham who mesmerized his audience when he read the poem here two years ago.
This program will take place at the North Chatham Free Library in  North Chatham on Route 203.  It is free and open to the public. Cocoa and refreshments will be served. For more information, call the Library at 766-3211.
